Soul Surfer: In the movie soul surfer there is one character who you almost only see during the surf competitions, Melina Birch. The movie tells us that she is a tough component and is not the nicest person. For the audience she is seen as a really good surfer/tough component for Bethany. We see that she doesn't take it easy on bethany even after her accident. She also seems high on herself thinking she is better than anyone else. She makes many rude comments throughout the movie along with comments/warnings about her beating Bethany in upcoming competitions. In the end, the movie shows us Melina's nicer side and that she might be a better person than the movie led us to believe in the beginning.

She wakes up realizing what day it is, she makes out this specific day to be something that no one is looking forward to and or is scared of, "she must have had bad dreams and climbed in with our mother. Of course, she did. This is the day of the reaping."p3. Even though she makes this day to be something terrible, the mood is calm as she takes time to observe small details and memories about her family and does not seem too worried or scared about what was to come today. "In sleep, my mother looks younger, still worn but not so beaten-down." "Prim's face is as fresh as a raindrop, lovely as the primrose for which she was named." It shows you that she knows the possibilities but has decided it is always easier to just not think about it, and focus on happy things in this moment, and enjoy them while she can.
