"Appointment with Love" - S.I. Kishor
"Blanford felt as though he were being split in two, so keen was his desire to follow the girl, yet so deep was his longing for the women whose spirit had truley companioned and upheld his own; and there she stood. Her pale, plump face was gentle and sesinle; he could see that now. Her grey eyes had a warm, kindly twinkle. Lieutenant Blandford did not hesitate. His fingers gripped the small, worn, blue leather cope of Of Human Bondage which was to indentify him to her. This would not be love, but it would be friendship for which he had been and must ever be grateful..."(S.I Koshor)
The short story, "Appointment with Love" by S.I. Kosher represents Inner beauty perfectly. This is a story of a lieutenant at war who writes back and forth with a girl from New York who he has never met in person. Through these letters he learns more and more about her and falls in love. "The women he had never seen, yet whose written words had been with him and sustained him unfailingly." One thing different about this girl is that she refuses to send the lieutenant a picture of herself. When asked why, she explains, " If your feeling for me has any relality, any honest basis, what I look like won't matter." She tells him that he will see what she looks like when he meets her in New York and gives him instrucctions to where she will be and what she will be wearing which includes a red rose. This women decides to test him and make and old more plump women wear the rose. The test is that she who is a very beautiful women will walk by him and right behind her will be the older lady, if he stays and asks the older lady out then he will have passed the test. The man does past the test and decides instead of chasing the beautiful women he stays with who thinks is the women he fell in love with and decides that he may not have a relationship but instead a friendship. This lieutenant looked past what the older lady looked like and focused on who she was on the inside and how he fell in love with her just through conversation. The older lady then told him he passed and sent him in the direction where the beautiful women who actually was in love with was waiting. This man could of easily decided he wanted to chase the beautiful women rather then meet the one with the rose with whom he fell in love with, but he stopped him self and took his eyes away from the outer beauty and found what was more important, inner beauty...
