Hunger Games- suspense

Suspense

There are many moments filled with suspense, many types of suspense. I chose a moment of suspense that is not neccissarly action or a life or death situation. I chose the suspense of what might happen between Katniss and Peeta now that the games have ended. Katniss mostly has been showing her love for peeta for the cameras although throughout the hunger games she does form feeling for him that she denies to herself. Katniss soon finds that Peeta wasn't faking his love for her for the camera's like she assumed, mostly because that's what she was always told. Now Katniss is torn between going home to her bestfriend Gale who has the possibility of being a boyfriend and Peeta, who she survived through this terrible time with. As they continue their journey back to district 12 you sense them drifting further and further apart as they continue not to speak. Peeta is frustrated that he was in love with Katniss but Katniss was not sure of her feelings for him back. This is always keeping the readers guessing what might happen next. Now that all the big suspense from during the games is gone, this small suspense keeps readers wanting more!

    1. "At eleven years old, with Prim just seven, I took over as head of the family. There was no choice." pg 25 (Steps up when her father dies and her mother is grieving)

They'd have failed the Capitol." pg 344    (There must be a victor, if they were both to die the joke would be on the Capitol) Katniss had the idea that they both eat the poisonous berries, to show that the capitol doesn't own them.

Hunger Games-Point of View

The story is being told in the point of view of the main character, Katniss Everdeen. I like the authors choice because you get the perspective of someone who is actually participating in the Hunger Games and their experience. The story would be less interesting if it were, for example in the perspective of her mother or sister because the story would not change much. They would clearly be sad and trying to live without Katniss but not much would be changing. In the perspective of Katniss, there's always a new obstacle that she is taking on each day, which get's you intrigued to know what is going to happen with her next. I think the athour chose this point of view because it is definitely the most interesting role. Even if the story, everyone is always wondering what it is like to be in the Hunger Games, from what the buildings are like, the food, to how it feels to be in the arena. If I were given the choice I would not change the point of view because then I would always be wondering what's going on with her during the games, what has she been doing etc...
