Film Adaption- Hunger Games

Difference between the movie and the book of  "The Hunger Games"

There are many differences between the book and the movie of "The Hunger Games"
To start off with, in the book when Katniss volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games, many people come to visit her before she leaves such as, her mother and sister, Gale, Madge, and also Peeta's father. In the movie, they leave out the visit of Madge and Peeta's father. I think they decided to cut this part because Madge and Peeta's father are not significant characters in the book compared to her family and Gale and you do not hear much about their relations with Katnniss in the first place, therefore their visit to see her is not as important to include.

Also, In the book Madge is the one who gives Katniss her Mockingjay pin. In the movie it is Prim who gives her sister the pin instead once again mostly because Madge is not a significant character.

Some other scenes I think are cut from the book because Katniss is mostly thinking about the incidents in her own thoughts and are not further talked about out loud.  In the movie they would not be shown such as Haymitch falling off the stage.

When the end of the hunger games is close they speed up the ending of the games by bringing in the cat-like animals in a day sooner then in the book. They leave out when all the water goes dry and they are forced to the lake where the attack happens. Instead the animals come out of nowhere the last night that they are hunting.

In the book, the injuries seem much more intense and Katniss and Peeta appear closer to death then they are in the movie, which also allows them to cut the part right after the games end when Peeta is nearly dead and they do surgery on both characters. This keeps the movie flowing faster near the end.

  1. I totally agree with you. I read the book a year before the movie and the only different part I noticed was the muttations not looking like the dead tributes. I kinda wished they found a cool way to show it in the movie but it would be really hard.
